Wrap Up Cumbria South
Wrap up is back!
In 2019 five Rotary Clubs in south Cumbria (Furness Peninsula, Furness, Ulverston, Kendal and Kendal South Westmorland) came together to collect unwanted thick warm winter coats which were then distributed to local charities, to hand out to individuals and families in need.
The campaign was hugely successful and over 2,200 coats were collected from 44 collection points and then distributed to 10 identified charitable organisations. These organisations all provide frontline services to the homeless, the elderly, refugees, families, children, and those fleeing domestic violence
Thick warm winter coats are collected by volunteers and each garment is inspected to ensure it is clean and in a good condition to be given away. Our motto of “Is this coat good enough for you to wear” ensures that only good quality coats are distributed to the charitable organisations.
Volunteers give their time for free to collect, inspect and sort all the coats into male, female, children, and baby categories. We do not give coats direct to families, because we firmly believe that the charitable organisations can identify support and resources to benefit those in need or signpost them to organisations that could help, thereby creating a lasting relationship between those in need and the organisation that could transform their lives.
This year, thick warm winter coats can be dropped off at our collection sites spread around Barrow, Ulverston, Milnthorpe and Kendal, just put them in the clearly branded collection boxes.
We’re wrapping up safely too by working hard to make sure everything about Wrap Up is completely COVID-19 safe.
So, if you have a thick warm winter coat you no longer need, donate it to our Wrap Up Cumbria South campaign.
